Harpoon UFO
UFO (Harpoon Brewing Co. - Boston, MA)
We don’t know why, but we love that picture. The way that girl stares lovingly into her empty glass of UFO pretty much summarizes the way we feel about this beer ... and about the girl.
For those of you who think that Sam Adams is the best Boston brewery, you’ve clearly never had a Harpoon.
Or maybe, you’ve been lucky enough to taste a Harpoon and didn’t realize it was brewed in Boston.
Amazingly enough, Harpoon’s UFO (their Un-Filtered Offering, heh) tastes absolutely nothing like an American beer. If it were not for the label, you could easily mistake it for something Bavarian or Belgian.
Harpoon’s pour is cloudy and colorful, and the aroma hints at citrus, banana and nutmeg. When you taste it, take a nice, long first swig. The flavor is beyond intoxicating, with subtle banana, wheat, malt and hops. If you are not careful, you could find yourself downing four or five of these gems without batting an eye.
Per their website, for maximum enjoyment, follow these three simple steps for UFO drinking (and all Hefe’s in general, as these mandates come from the Kaiser himself):
1. Serve at 38 degrees.
2. Pour half the beer into a tall 25 oz. wheat glass.
3. Swirl the bottle three times, pour the rest out, shaking the bottle as you do
Now you know how to drink the perfect UFO, every time. Not that this beer needs much help, it’s just about perfect as it is.
