The Love Of Beer

SoCal Gets Crafty

Posted by Conditional Love inMicrolove on Wednesday, November 05, 2008

Los Angeles is a raw green tea town. Clearly, we know this.

Now that we got that out of the way, we’d like to inform you that lately L.A. has hopped on the craft beer bullet train.

Stone Brewing, AleSmith Brewing and Firestone Walker are pretty well established, and have been producing great stuff for years.

However, brand new local breweries have been popping up all over the L.A. metro area, stretching as far back as Palm Desert. Microbreweries have begun to infiltrate the west coast ... which is a refreshing change of pace.

Lately, restaurants and lounges have begun to pay as much attention to their beer lists as their wine lists, while pubs and alehouses with their own house brews have commenced dotting the landscape.

Sure adds more character to the area than another Asian Fusion restaurant.

Stone and Alesmith are San Diego, not LA. And Firestone Walker is Central Coast. Most of the best micros coming out of SoCal are in San Diego (see Lost Abbey/Port, Ballast Point, Green Flash, and Alpine along with Stone and Alesmith). Even The Bruery really isn’t in LA but Orange County.
