The Official Olympic Drinking Game

Posted by Conditional Love inHappy Hour on Thursday, August 14, 2008

For the next two weeks the world watches, as athletes we’ve never heard of, compete in events we didn’t know existed, for countries we can’t locate on the map.

Since our personal drinking game, “while watching the Olympics, drink,” might be too intense, in the spirit of the games, we’ve prepared a game that’s more appropriate for an amateur level of competition.

Oh, and of course we implore that in the interest of global unity, please try to locate a beer from at least one of the countries competing.  World peace thanks you.

1. If you don’t understand how the sport your watching is scored, drink once.
2. If you’re pretty sure the announcer doesn’t know how the sport your watching is scored, drink twice.
3. Every time someone you’re watching with claims that they could participate in an olympic sport, force them to drink once.
4. Each time an athlete inverts themselves, invert your beverage into mouth for one second.
5. If there’s a country you have not heard of, challenge people around you to name the country’s continent.  If they guess incorrectly, they must drink twice, if they guess correctly, you must finish your drink.
6. Drink once if game is played on land, twice if by sea, stop drinking if you can’t tell.
7. Every time the audience chants a country’s name, take one drink while humming the “Star Spangled Banner”
8. If an announcer makes reference to an event occurring outside the games, stop drinking, Olympic coverage is over for the day, this is the news.
9. Drink once if an athlete is under 18 drink twice if an athlete is under 16, don’t drink if you’re under 21.
10. If you’re watching a sport that you’d never watch in a million years outside of the Olympics drink three times to pique your interest.
11. Every time you giggle at a competitor’s name, drink.
12. Drink every time there’s a shot of The Great Wall of China

Athlete’s backstory drinking sub-game:
Throughout the games coverage will often cut from the sports in order to highlight a single competitors rise from adversity onto the olympic stage, this is when we need alcohol the most.

1. Drink once if the athlete is doing this for their parents, drink twice if their parents are recently deceased.
2. Chug one second for each year the athlete has “pursued the Olympic dream!”
3. Each time an athlete came from “The wrong side of the tracks to get here today,” take a sip from your forty.
4. Every time the description of an injury make you wince, drink twice to numb the pain.

So, there you go, kids. Round up a beer from every continent and start your livers!

If I played this game, I would be hammered before the first commercial break.

Rule number 9 says drink twice if a competitor is under 16, but their is a new rule now where you have to be 16 the year of the Olympics. Unless of course you are counting the Chinese gymnasts.

Conjunction junction: wherever you see your in this post (except for points 5 and 10), substitute you’re or you are. Fun game though!

All opinion and arguments and conjunctions are not important at this time. Because we had covered the games and looking for London. But i would like to say that we get a lot of fun, joy, record, breaking record from Beijing Olympics and that helps us to forget all debate and argument.

Now we are looking for London. With all the arguments I think Beijing did their job successfully. So for that now it becomes as a challenge for Europe… for London.
